Full Abstract: Our focus in this research is on the use of aluminum- and iron-based coagulants for simultaneous removal of inorganic (fluoride, arsenic, and chromium) and organic (natural organic matter) contaminants. This research provides not only the optimal operating conditions for the target contaminants in small systems, but also the interrelationship of physical/chemical reaction mechanisms during coagulation process. A key aspect of this work focuses on the impact of these contaminants on floc formation during the coagulation processes as well as the impact of natural organic matter on removal of the target contaminants. These impacts are especially important in small systems which are operationally and financially vulnerable.
